Der gälischen Name FAD-MOINE, englisch "Big Peat" erzeugt schon eine hohe Erwartung, was uns denn dieses neue Port Charlotte Valinch bescheren wird.

Wer das Etikett genau betrachtet, erkennt auf dem Bild die Person mit dem Peatblock in der Hand - Duncan MacGilvery.
Nicht zuletzt ihm zur Ehre darf man auf einen besonderen Tropfen hoffen.

Not least because of him we can expect a very special dram.

Viognier ist ein französicher Weißwein ... das sei nicht gesagt aus Besserwisserei - die Farbe dieses Whiskies lässt uns eher an ein Rotweinfaß denken.
Auch gibt es weitere überraschende Details: während sich der Torf im Glas durchaus seinen Raum nimmt, verliert er sich größtenteils, sobald man einen Tropfen auf die Handinnenfläche gibt und verreibt. Hier hätten wir doch deutlich mehr "Big Peat" erwartet.
Aber nun doch mal der Reihe nach.

Viongnier is a french whitewine.... this is not a know-it-all-attitude - the colour of this Whisky reminds more on a red wine cask than on a white wine.
There are some more surprising details: while the peat is very dominant in the glass, there were only little peaty hints remaining when pouring a drop of whisky on the hand balm and rub it till the alcohol has gone. This was a point where we would have expect more "Big Peat".
But one after the other....
Welche Aromen finden wir zunächst in der Nase? Salzkaramell und deutlich präsenter Rauch mit Getreidenoten. Getrocknete Cranberries, die eine oder andere spricht dann auch von minzig frischen Noten und auch Vanille wird genannt.
Im Mund dann TORF ... sehr präsent. Dieser Moment war wohl namensgebend. Auch wieder das Salzkrokant und Malz hier zu finden. Nicht zuletzt die Kirschlollies runden unser Bild ab.
Im Nachklang mittellang anhaltend und leicht trocken.

Nose - First of all it was above all the delicacy of salty caramel and smoke, very present, combined with malty notes that strucks us. Dried cranberries and some of us found some fresh minty notes and of course vanilla.
In the mouth then PEAT ... very dominating, lending its name to the valinch. Here again we find the salty butterscotch. Not least we had some in Germany well known red Cherry Lollies.
The after taste is medium and slightly dry.
Die Zugabe von Wasser lässt ihn alkoholischer werden und wirkt eher disharmonisch.
Wir nehmen dieses Valinch so wie es ist - straight from the cask.
